HOW TO JOIN NDIS
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an Australian government-funded program that provides support to eligible people with disabilities. To join the NDIS, you must meet certain eligibility criteria and follow the application process outlined below:
-
Check your eligibility: Before applying for the NDIS, you should check if you meet the eligibility criteria. To be eligible, you must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a protected special category visa, be under 65 years of age, have a permanent and significant disability, and require support from others to perform daily activities.
-
Gather documentation: Once you have confirmed your eligibility, you will need to gather relevant documentation such as medical reports, assessment reports, and other evidence of your disability.
-
Contact the NDIS: You can contact the NDIS by calling the national hotline on 1800 800 110 or visiting the NDIS website to request an Access Request Form.
-
Complete the Access Request Form: The Access Request Form will ask you for information about your disability, the supports you need, and the impact of your disability on your daily life. You will also need to provide supporting documentation.
-
Submit your application: Once you have completed the Access Request Form and gathered all necessary documentation, you can submit your application to the NDIS.
-
Attend a planning meeting: If your application is approved, you will be invited to attend a planning meeting with an NDIS planner or Local Area Coordinator (LAC). This meeting will help determine your goals, support needs, and funding requirements.
-
Develop a plan: Based on the information gathered at the planning meeting, the NDIS will develop a support plan tailored to your individual needs and goals.
-
Start receiving supports: Once your plan is finalised and approved, you can start receiving supports from the NDIS.
It is important to note that the process of joining the NDIS can be complex and time-consuming, and it is recommended that you seek assistance from a support worker, family member, or advocate if needed.
